Sonia is Special Counsel at Danny King Legal, working as a lawyer and forming part of the Senior Management Team. Sonia thrives on producing outcomes for and supporting people through their employment highs and lows.

Sonia was awarded a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Sydney and a Master of Laws from the University of Technology Sydney. She was admitted to practice in 2010, and began her career working as an In-House Lawyer at the Australian and International Pilots Association, before taking up positions in Turner Freeman Lawyers and Hall & Wilcox Lawyers. She then went on to work for Hays Recruitment Specialists as Legal Counsel in Employment Law, which was a fast-paced and varied role that saw Sonia providing her services to businesses in Australia and New Zealand and internally across all levels of Hays Australia and New Zealand. Sonia returned to the Australian and International Pilots Association in 2018 as Head of Legal, where she led a team consisting of lawyers and an industrial officer. This role afforded her the opportunity to hone her leadership and management skills in a multi-faceted, ever-changing environment. In 2021, Sonia joined Danny King Legal, bringing with her a diverse experience and skillset.

She is passionate about all things employment law, industrial relations, and dispute resolution.  Sonia prides herself on being down-to-earth, logical, and honest in her work, and seeks to be as upfront as possible with her clients while maintaining her approachability and empathy. She endeavours to make the legal process clear for all her clients by avoiding unnecessary technical legal terminology or corporate jargon to guide them through the often challenging world of employment law

Sonia has acted for many employer and employee clients in various industries. She has experience in blue-collar industries, representing BlueScope Steel and recruitment and labour hire company, Hays Specialist Recruitment, in various disputes in the construction and mining sector, including bargaining for an enterprise agreement for black coal mining employees. Sonia has extensive experience in acting for employees, including unions and members at the Australian and International Pilots Association, and the Financial Services Union. Sonia’s key achievements are negotiating enterprise agreements on behalf of pilots employed by the Qantas Group and building key relationships in all her roles to get good outcomes for her clients.

Unfair dismissals, General Protections claims, and enterprise bargaining are some areas of Sonia’s expertise, and she enjoys tackling dispute resolution to achieve the best outcomes using an interest-based approach. Her litigation experience is a valuable asset to the team at Danny King Legal. In addition to her work in litigation and non-litigation matters, Sonia is involved in mentoring and developing the other solicitors within the firm. She is eager to help the firm as it continues to evolve and grow, and enjoys representing Danny King Legal with pride and integrity.

Sonia is an avid lover of cricket and considers herself a red wine aficionado. In her spare time, she enjoys scoping restaurants for good food.
