Cormac is an Associate at Danny King Legal, working as a lawyer and forming part of the Senior Management Team. Cormac is an experienced solutions-focused lawyer, who takes pride in his creative and versatile approach to employment law.

He was awarded a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Bachelor of Commerce (B. Comm), majoring in Accounting, from the University of Wollongong, and worked as a Magistrate Assistant in Waverly Local Court, before joining Danny King Legal in 2017 as a graduate lawyer. Now an Associate, Cormac has developed a versatile employment law practice, appearing for both employers and employees, in the Fair Work Commission, Australian Human Rights Commission and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. He is also heavily involved in litigation matters at Danny King Legal, being instructing solicitor for both Applicant and Respondent matters before the Federal Court and Federal Circuit Court of Australia.

Cormac is committed to providing his clients with thorough and practical advice, tailored to each case and its particulars. This is evident in his work as lead solicitor running conciliations, mediations, and negotiating settlements for employers and employees, where he has exceeded expectations in finalising deals and achieving client outcomes. As part of his daily practice, Cormac advises employers through consultation processes, disciplinary proceedings, and investigations into misconduct. His understanding of business and finance makes Cormac a particularly good choice in dealing with corporate matters.

One of Cormac’s most proud achievements is instructing Counsel in the Federal Court of Australia in a successful judgement for an employee in a General Protections claim, in both the first instance and then upheld on appeal by the Full Federal Court of Australia. Some of his other notable achievements include negotiating settlement payments of $270,000 and $137,000 on behalf of employees for breaches of the General Protections in the Federal Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court of Australia respectively.  He appreciates the complexities of the employment relationship from both the employer and employee side.

Cormac has been recognised by his colleagues and clients for his empathetic and affable manner, generosity of spirit, and for putting his clients at ease.

As part of the Management Team at Danny King Legal, Cormac has used his accounting degree to support the firm with its administrative and financial needs. In his capacity as Associate, he also provides strategy, guidance and mentoring to the junior lawyers, in line with his interest in the future direction and development of law in Australia.

He is a regular contributor to CPD, having presented at the Thomson Reuters Workplace Bullying, Harassment & Discrimination Conference, the Legal Wise Employment Law Conference, and Australian College of Midwives Conferences. Cormac is also an accredited Mental Health First Aid Officer, and is a critical part of the healthy culture Danny King Legal prides itself on.

Cormac spends much of his free time enjoying the outdoors, and is an avid hiker and camping enthusiast. Surfing is his latest endeavour. Cormac’s other great love is his cat, Allan.
